Microsoft Project AirSim Uses the Metaverse to Train Autonomous Drone AI

For autonomous drone AI training, Microsoft Project AirSim turns to the metaverse, or a virtual world that simulates physics in a realistic three-dimensional environment. These autonomous drones are piloted by artificial intelligence in a controlled setting, which is significantly safer than training them in a metropolis with human pilots.

Project AirSim can simulate millions of drone flights in seconds, allowing them to react to innumerable variables just like they would in the real world. It has 3D libraries of various settings and real-world locales, like as New York City, and pre-trained models that may be utilised to develop more customised digital drone pilots. They will also avoid Rheinmetall's Skynex Air Defense System, which is designed to take out a swarm of drones.

The expenses and risks associated with inspecting infrastructure such as cell towers or wind turbines are considerably reduced by autonomous solutions. "AI algorithms identify and avoid obstacles in flight, then find anomalies during inspection," Microsoft said.
